Target Audience:

Mix FM plays mostly contemporary hits and during the time I listened it was mostly things that I had heard. There was also a mixture of some older artists such as “Toni Braxton” but new artists which haven't made it over to the UK yet such as “Mariannas Trench”. The audience therefore is people that are into contemporary hits radio maybe housewives – it's the equivalent to capital/heart in the UK.

General Observations:

  • Much less chat when compared to North American Radio.

  • No adverts as it's a BBC broadcast

  • 1 news bulletin in an hour at half past the hour.

  • Great mixture of Classic Songs and New Music

  • A lot is focussed around Lauren Laverne being a tastemaker, people will listen to what she has to say about artists and then find similar artists.

Features:

  • People's playlist - Half an hour on one theme – Laidback Ladies.
    User interaction -

  • Sessions – 6 Music presents a lot of unique sessions for touring artists

Target Audience:

There is a mixture of classic songs and New Music, the station on the whole is for people who consider themselves as knowledgable Music fans. The typical listener would read several music publications such as NME or Q but also Music based blogs and would be an active live music attendee with their finger on the pulse regarding the latest trending bands.
